Here’s an interesting article from the Nation: “Who let the punks out?”
Punkvoter.com has some cool shirts and anti-Bush stickers!!!
I’ve been so busy lately, that I completely missed the launch of this campaign. Check out the ACLU’s Get Busy. Get Equal. The campaign focuses on equality specifically to gay rights.
I can’t believe the kids are almost done with school for the year. They only have a week or so before they are done for the summer. I was hoping to have the house sold by this time, but it doesn’t look like it will happen. We planted flower and the garden figuring we will probably be here for the summer. It sucks, but there isn’t much we can do.
School is going well. I finished all my interviews for Senior Fieldwork and am hoping to be placed with an agency where I can do some direct client practice along with working on policy and education. I start summer class the first week in June and go until mid-August I think. I’m only taking a few classes over the summer, so that I still enjoy it a little bit.
I had the most horrible group experience a couple of weeks ago. I had to co-facilitate a group discussion on Old Yeller. The group consisted of 5th graders from a few different schools in the cities. I couldn’t get those kids to discuss anything! It was horrible and reinforced my belief that I would never want to be a teacher. Crazy. The whole time I was there, I wanted to scream. Two other experienced people were supposed to help me, but they were just as bad as the kids were. One of the people hadn’t even read the book! It was horrible!
I am all done with my internship. I am glad to have it done with. I basically checked out on the whole internship back in January, so it was a struggle to stay there until May. It ended up being nothing like I expected. I am really disappointed with the way everything turned out, but I am using it as a learning experience. I definitely learned stuff there and met some great people, but because none of them are social workers, they had no idea what I was capable of. Yuck!
