Happy 10th Anniversary to my dear, sweet husband!!! He has to spend our anniversary in class, but we celebrated a couple of weeks ago with a trip to the Guthrie. Tens years! Wow! I don’t feel old enough to be married ten years!

Well, I’ve been busy starting my new classes. I’m taking my last 14 undergraduate credits! Wow! I can’t believe I am graduating. Ahhh…I can’t wait for summer. Anyway, my classes are interesting. I tried to save the best for last knowing that I would have to continue going to classes even after I walk in the graduation ceremony. I’m taking a class called Global Search for Justice focusing on Voices of Dissent. It’s a required class at CSC. However, they offer a few different focuses such as Women and Work or Women and Healthcare. As part of the class we have to choose a global social justice issue. I have decided to do my topic on trokosi’s. These are young women who are enslaved to repay the sins/crimes of family members. Marie Clarie ran an article in the May issue which prompted my interest. I love girly magazines with an edge on current events. It’s fashion and learning rolled into one nice package.

So, here is more information on the issue of child slavery-trokosi.

I decided to apply for a voluntary position for on the county human services resource council. I figure what better way to start learning about how policies are made then at the local level. My county commissioner called me to talk to me about the position tonight. He seems like a good guy, but didn’t know much of about the position. He said that he will appoint me at the meeting next Monday. I have to call the secretary to get more information about the position. I know that the council meets approx. 5 times a year and I get a $40 per diem. Interesting. I’m looking forward to getting involved locally.

I started my last term of classes this past weekend. All of them are fairly interesting, but a lot of busy work. I think I will end up liking my media criticsim and global search for justice classes the best. My grades are still not posted from last term. I am a little nervous about 2 of the classes so it’s driving me crazy not knowing what my grade is.

I’ve been reading a lot of stuff on how people are a little pissed off that Bush has ordered the flags be flown at half-staff for the Pope and Bush’s “Presidential” attendance at the funeral. I am not quite sure how I feel about these things. On one hand, I want to say it’s the Pope–not was he a religious leader, but also somewhat of a diplomat. I mean he is being credited with helping to end the Cold War. But, then I think do or would we fly the flag at half-staff for other foreign dignitaries? We didn’t do anything for Yasser Arafat. I know he was thought of as a terrorist and all, but we didn’t do anything. So, I just don’t know. I am not a member of the Catholic Church, but I am not offended that my Country is showing respect for who the Pope was. Hmmmm….any thoughts?
