How are you celebrating Halloween today?
We'll be carving pumpkins when Jaycie and Maxwell get home from school. We normally do this earlier but life has been crazy lately and we just haven't gotten to it. Then some of us will dress up at burritos to get a free burrito from Chipotle. Around 6:30ish, we'll hit the 'hood for some candy. Usually one of us stays back to hand out candy to the other kids. Normally it's me because I hate the cold and it's going to be cold tonight, but Ben says I'm taking the kids out and he'll pass out the candy. It takes less than an hour to get to all the house, so we'll be home early enough for the kids to enjoy some candy before bed.
Jodi, Kelli, and I went to a Pampered Chef party tonight. It was a chocolate themed party. The demonstrator made an ultimate chocolate brownie. Jodi laughed in the glory of brownies. Again thinking and believing that because brownies were being served it therefore made them the better dessert. However, the evidence of the night again supported the superiority of pie.
1. The recipe calls for adding a bunch of chocolate chips. Why you ask? The demonstrator said to make the brownies moist.
2. My cousin and another guest are having a conversation about the gooey brownies. My cousin states, "I don't usually like brownies because they are all dry."
3. Further prompting of my cousin about dessert options. She states, "I don't like pie either. But, I do like raspberry pie from Baker's Square." Me: "So, if you had to choose between brownie and pie, what would you choose?" My cousin: "PIE!"
Guitar Hero 3 ROCKS!
I was so excited to play tonight that I even stayed sober at book club. I've played Social D's "Story of My Life" and The Killers "When You Were Young." Ben battled Tom Morello and beat him! Up next is AFI's "Miss Murder." I'm not going to sleep tonight.
Today is a day filled with mix emotions. Nine years ago today, I brought forth young Maxwell into this world. And by the way, Maxwell has rebuked cake and opted for one cherry and one blueberry pie in celebration of his birthday. And on the same day and that same year, Jodi let my cat, Jasper, jump out of the window. I never saw Jasper again and it's all Jodi's fault. Then five years ago today, my hero, Paul Wellstone, died. So today is a happy day for Maxwell, but we always remember Paul and Jasper as well.

Wellstone’s legacy remains vibrant five years after his death
Five years after his death, Wellstone still inspires
Today is the big day–I'm taking the GRE. I'm not sure why, but I'm way more nervous then I thought I'd be. I'm generally a good test taker, but this test is killing me. It's not even the importance of it that is making me nervous because I have a pretty good under grad and grad GPA so I'm sure that will help balance out a bad score. Despite this rational knowledge, I am shaking with nerves. I even got sick at bowling last night and had to leave. I thought it was the stifling heat in the alleys that was making me nauseous but now, I'm thinking it must be this damn test. I know I'm not as prepared as I promised myself I would be. I've been staring at the GRE Prep books for months. I've worked on the vocab, but put off the dreaded math stuff until last week. The math is your basic Jr/Sr High math but it's been so long since I've done much of it that even the refreshers aren't refreshing. I plan to work on it a little more this morning before I head to the testing center, but I'm not sure how much it will help. I hope my nerves settle down once the test starts.
What's your cure for the common cold?
I wish I had one. I have a cold right now that is getting in the way of my life. I took Nyquil for the first time ever and that was quite nice. It numbs the body in a perfectly gentle way. During the day, I take whatever kind of nasal decongestant I have in the house. I like the pseudoephedrine, but the straight up ephedrine was better when you could get it.
I reserved my copy of Guitar Hero III today. I opted for the bundle to get an additional guitar. I can pick it up after 11am on October 28th! I'm so excited.
Tonight, we were discussing a local radio contest for Hannah Montana tickets. The gist of the contest was to get a famous person to call the radio station on your behalf. The person who had the most famous person call in would win the tickets. So, Ben, Jaycie, Max, and I were talking about who we could get.
Max: That's easy. I would get Jodi.
Me: Why is Jodi famous?
Max: Well, she's an author so that's good. And plus her blog. And she got in that contest. So, that makes her famous, right?
Me (with a slight giggle): Yes, it does make her famous.
A little positive nod to Jodi, who hasn't been feeling the love lately. So, I think Max is automatically the President of the "Jodi is the Coolest and the Most Famous Person on the Internet" fan club. I know there are a few who will be disappointed with not winning the title.
Oh and a side note, Joe Mauer called in, winning the tickets for some lucky person. He beat out Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) and ESPN's Stuart Scott.
